Welcome to the pages of the Hovawart
breed section which has been formed on the initiative
of a group of devotees of the breed in Slovenia. The very
first example of the breed in Slovenia was a black male
Cliff vom Schlosspark imported from (then) East Germany
in 1993. The proud owner who imported the specimen was
Mrs Meta Berce. The driving power behind the move to establish
an independent section within Slovenian Dog Breeders Club
was Mr Branko Lavrencic, himself owner of a golden yellow
Ben vom Ziehbrunenn. Mr Lavrencic had for a number of
years been collecting and gathering data and various pieces
of information; he kept a working diary about the breed’s
existence and development in Slovenia as well as publishing
this information in Slovene language on the internet pages
for other breed enthusiasts to see. As the number of the
Hovawart slowly grew, it was on 18th February, 2000 decided
- following the representation of Mrs Berce and Mr Lavrencic
– that the official section honoring the breed be formed.
This event took place at the Annual Meeting of Slovenian
Canine Club for Large Dogs and Molosses (SKVMP). This
Club is affiliated with the Canine Association of Slovenia.
The Hovawart breed is counted as a Molosses Breed under
the classification of the International Canine Federation
(FCI). The page that you are actually reading is in fact
an official page representing the owners and admirers
of this beautiful and well liked working dogs breed which
are now combined in one Hovawart section.
